Catawba County United Way

United Way

The mission of Catawba County United Way is to increase the organized capacity of people to help others by mobilizing the caring power of our community.

The vision of Catawba County United Way is to be the most effective and efficient organization that identifies and prioritizes the greatest unmet human needs in the community, focuses human compassion, and mobilizes resources to meet those needs.

The Catawba County United Way has brought together people and resources to build a safety net to help meet the needs of our friends, neighbors, co-workers and families.
A constant reminder that when we as individuals think outside ourselves, we have the power to facilitate change. When we think of others’ lives as linked to our own, our compassion grows. When we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. We build the strength of our neighborhoods. We bolster the health of our communities. And we change the lives of those who walk by us every day.

Honor your Volunteers!
Got a great volunteer that you want to recognize?

Nominate them for the 2017 Giving From the Heart Award.  We had a great event last year so let’s make this year even better by nominating more volunteers!  We accept nominations for volunteers that live or volunteer in Catawba County and we accept nominations from all non-profits and all not-for-profits.  The Award luncheon is scheduled for November 15th at the Catawba County Club and all nominees will receive an invitation to the luncheon where they will be recognized and receive a certificate of appreciation.  This is a GREAT way to recognize your volunteers without costing your agency/organization anything!  Click here to obtain the application.  Return the completed application to Tammy Dotson by October 18, 2017. This will be a strict cut-off in order to get the applications judged and plan for the luncheon.  If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Tammy at or at (828) 327-6851.

June 1, 2017 AARP article - NC 2-1-1

Hours after Hurricane Matthew drenched eastern North Carolina last year, a panicked caller searched for help escaping the floodwaters racing toward his rural home. The local 911 system was overloaded, so he called NC 2-1-1, whose specialists were able to coordinate the rescue through the local emergency management system.

“It was between 1 and 4 in the morning,” said Janay, an information and referral specialist who asked that her last name not be used because of agency policy. The caller told her the water had never been so high. In the background, Janay heard what sounded like a rushing river and an anxious woman calling out that the water was getting higher.
