How I Live United through Catawba County United Way

I Live United by saying “YES” when the “Help Wanted” call is received. Whether it’s collecting school supplies for needy students through my United Way’s annual School Supply Drive; parking cars at a volunteer fund raising event; wrapping toys for the local Christmas Bureau for which my United Way is a partner; contributing to food drives where my United Way partners with the National Association of Letter Carriers;  serving hot dogs at the Catawba County United Way’s annual Cross Country Invitational;  helping needy agencies; serving as a United Way Board Member; sharing a warm meal; coaching  young children or identifying and encouraging employers to participate in the annual Catawba County United Way employee campaign, being a passionate volunteer has its rewards and produces lasting memories. Giving financially, mentally and/or physically is everyone’s responsibility and being visible and active in the United Way’s mission to serve those who need help is the seed that will bear fruit for many years to come.

As we continue to face the challenges many encounter each day, the need for volunteers and caring hearts greatly increases. Staying united in our journey to build a better community and improve lives is contagious and represents an everlasting gift in a special way. There is strength in numbers so, by mentoring others to come forth and share their diverse and unique gifts and teaming to find solutions for the problems and misfortunes of those in our community, we all benefit.  For me, serving as a volunteer is the medicine I need to cleanse my body and strengthen my heart. It’s all about your attitude. You actually do receive by giving.

So just like the famous battery that keeps on going and going, follow my lead as volunteers continue to “walk the walk and talk the talk” to make sure our community is a better place to raise a family and Live United. Just say “YES” when asked to give financially, mentally or physically not only because it’s the right way, it’s the United Way. Take that first step for a better community.

Sincerely,
