The Catawba County United Way hosted its annual Board Advance at Heritage Barn in Conover. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, this was the first time the CCUW board met in person in two years.

It was a great opportunity for the 17 attending members of the board to introduce themselves to each other and for the CCUW staff to brief them on the work accomplished in 2021.

Executive Director Mark Bumgarner led a discussion on future objectives for the board, identifying areas of need in the county.

These included: equity, homelessness, mental health, youth services and collaboration.

The Catawba County Youth Council were special guests at the meeting, sharing what they saw as important issues to area youth - drug/alcohol use, mental health, poverty.
