Ellie was struggling to pay her rent and buy food in July.
She didn’t know where to go for help, but she had heard about a number she could call, 211.
The call specialist provided Ellie with referrals to local food pantries in her community and to an agency that might be able to help with rent assistance.
As they spoke, Ellie shared with the call specialist that she was also suffering from extreme tooth pain due to an infection. She didn’t expect to find any help with this call.
She just felt like sharing the situation with the friendly voice on the other end of the phone. To her surprise, the 211 Call Specialist was able to provide Ellie with information on a discounted dental clinic that could potentially help with her dental problem.
NC 2-1-1 is the health and human services information line provided by United Way of North Carolina. Catawba County United Way is one of several community partners who help fund this program to make sure this doorway to help is always available.
