For the third year in a row, Publix has been named United Way’s No. 1 Global Corporate Leader.

During the company’s most recent workplace campaign, Publix associates pledged $37.8 million to United Way with Publix Super Market Charities committing an additional $24.5 million, bringing the total contribution to $62.3 million.

The total contribution is being distributed among the 109 local United Ways in Publix’s eight-state operating area of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia.

Locally, the Catawba County United Way (CCUW) is grateful for the year-round support received from the Publix stores at Lake Hickory Crossings and at The Village Shoppes in Sherrills Ford.

Combined, donors from these two stores contributed more than $259,000 through the CCUW’s campaigns held in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Those funds supported local United Way efforts focused on improving academic achievement, financial stability and people’s health right here in Catawba County.

During last year’s CCUW school supply drive, Publix also made a donation of $4,160 in gift cards, distributed among all three local public school districts.

“We are so lucky to have Publix in our community. It’s just a culture of giving there,” Catawba County United Way Director of Resource Development said.
