Last September, the Catawba County United Way hosted its annual Race United event.
It was in partnership with the Hickory Motor Speedway and was championship night.
Along with being a free night of racing and fireworks, it was also an opportunity for community outreach. Prior to the start of racing, a resource fair with two dozen local non-profits was held, providing information about their services.
The CCUW also hosted a food drive at the event to benefit the food pantries at The Salvation Army, Ashure Ministry, The Hickory Soup Kitchen and The Corner Table in Newton. Nearly 1,500 individual non-perishable items were collected.
