1. How long have you been with your agency and have worked with non-profits overall?

I've been with the American Red Cross for a little over four years and have worked in the non-profit field for more than 30 years.

2. What drew you to your current position and this kind of work?

My entire professional career has been devoted to assisting those in need. I could not think of a better organization than the Red Cross to continue making a difference in the life of others.

3. What is the impact of your agency in our community?

In 2021, the Red Cross served our community by providing critical support to disaster victims, training our community on disaster preparedness, and providing emergency and ongoing support to military members, veterans, and their families. In 2021, we responded to 54 disasters in Catawba County, assisting 62 families made up of 154 individuals, and provided $39,866 in direct financial assistance. We also installed 109 free smoke alarms, making 61 homes and 125 people in Catawba County safer from home fires as part of our Home Fire Campaign. Lastly, we provided 282 case services to 134 military members, veterans, and their families through our Services to the Armed Forces.

4. What does a good day at work look like?

Blue skies, no home fires, happy volunteers, and an opportunity to share our work with the community.

5. The non-profit world can be stressful. What’s your favorite way to relax?

Walking the dog, talking with my children, and listening to music.

6. Do you have a favorite book/movie and why?

My favorite book is The Killer Angels because I visited the Gettysburg battlefield many years ago.
