Being in a wheelchair hasn’t slowed Annie Fallin much.
The 76-year-old, also known as “Wheezy” among her friends, still creates stories to share with her grandkids and enjoys sharing time with her neighbors.

Stepping into a NC 2-1-1 call center is like stepping into a whirlwind.
On one side of the room, a call specialist is trying to help someone find a way to pay their rent. Just a few feet away, a family is trying to find a way to get back home to another state, and in the adjacent cubicle an individual wants information on local food pantries.

HICKORY – In her mid-40s, Keisha Singletary decided she’d had enough of the lifestyle that had left her hooked on drugs, in an unhealthy relationship and incarcerated for six years.

HICKORY – Last year, more than 9,319 calls were placed to the United Way’s 2-1-1 community help line asking for information about low-cost housing while more than 12,000 calls were made about shelters, according to nc.211counts.org.
In Catawba County those numbers were 164 and 111, respectively and again only represent calls to 2-1-1 and not the total need.

The Catawba County United Way (CCUW) is accepting Notices of Intent to apply for funding for 2021.
This Notice of Intent is due on Monday, Feb. 3 by 5 p.m.
If your Notice of Intent is accepted, you’ll be asked to attend training to prepare you to fill out a pre-Request for Funding Proposal (pre-RFP) on Feb. 5 at 8:30 a.m.
